Hazel Egan – September to October 2017
Hazel Egan was Creative Spark’s Artist-in-Residence from August to October. Hazel graduated from the Limerick School of Art and Design in 2014 with a First Class Honours BA in Printmaking and Contemporary Practice. Since finishing college she has been working to develop her practice as a visual artist, and she has exhibited nationally and internationally.
In 2015 she attended a week long masterclass in Ballinglen Arts Foundation with the Dutch artist Arno Kramer. There she focused on contemporary drawing. Later in the year she was awarded the emerging Irish Artist Residency Award by the Burren College of Art and the 126 Gallery. She also won the F15 & AIB People’s Choice Award at the Foundation 15 Arts Festival in Tullamore and recently received a prize at Impressions Book Art 2016 exhibition in Galway.
Having focused on graphite drawing and installation for awhile she was excited to return to printmaking. Hazel enjoys all print process however, etching, aquatint, and blind emboss are her preferred techniques. Hazel’s aim for this project is to research and create a new body of graphite drawings. She then hopes to translate them into prints and to produce editions and handmade books. The final pieces, she hopes, she would be interested in exhibiting work in Dundalk throughout the residency and to provide print and bookbinding workshops for children.
