This workshop is an introduction to Batik: an ancient fabric dyeing technique (originated from Java) where hot wax is used as a resist on cloth. Participants will learn 2 different wax applications including the use of traditional tools and more contemporary methods. They will use pure beeswax, paraffin wax and fabric dyes to create simple images and pattern on fabric of 100% cotton. The full day will allow for for a process involving up to 3 colour – wax layers and participants will work on two Batik pieces.
Suitable for complete beginners or participants with very little experience.
