This course offers a thorough introduction to Batik: an ancient fabric dyeing technique (originated from Java) where hot wax is used as a resist on cloth. Participants will learn 3 different wax applications including the use of traditional tools and more contemporary methods. They will use pure beeswax, paraffin wax and fabric dyes to create images, design and pattern on fabric 100% cotton. The two days will allow for more layers of the process, working with up to 5 colours and it will be possible to include other techniques for example etching into wax.
