Join Dónall Billings from Belfast Print Workshop for a weekend masterclass .
Aluminium salt etching uses sodium chloride combined with copper sulphate to produce deep black tonal qualities in the plate akin to an aquatint.
You will explore a light sensitive photo resist and other permeable resists to achieve a range of tone, texture and depth in the prints. The course will combine the use of photo resist film with hand-drawn imagery and mark-making.
This weekend course is aimed at beginners and experienced printmakers who would like to learn more about this particular type of etching process.
All materials are provided and a high-contrast, digital image will be required for exposing onto the photoresist film.
The image can be emailed, Dropboxed, in jpeg format or you can bring the image along on a USB. You may also bring along any sketchbooks, photographs as well.
You will each come away with a limited edition of handmade prints, printed on archival printmaking paper using an etching press and archival inks.
