Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community Manager

CLG is looking for a highly organised and charismatic individual for the role of Creative
Spark Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community Manager.

A key element of the role of the Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community Manager will be to lead the collaboration of the various stakeholders and partner organisations in the delivery of innovation and enterprise supports to learners,
SMEs and industry.

Supported by the Executive Director and the existing Creative Spark team, the Creative
Spark Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community Manager will work with a collaborative steering group and continue the close collaboration with partners to ensure the project is meeting the needs of entrepreneurs, start-ups, learners, existing and emerging manufacturing in the region – a FabLab ecosystem in action!

The Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community Manager will be mandated to deliver on the Creative Spark ambition to drive regional entrepreneurial innovation in line with its strategic pillars to provide spacedeliver supports and connect clusters.

The role of Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community
Manager comprises:

Communication & Business Development / Community Engagement

  • Responsible for planning and implementing a Business Development Pipeline and

Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.

  • Prepare for operational launch through a high level of engagement with key agency stakeholders, energetic awareness building and developing a strong client pipeline primarily across the North East Region.
  • Assist with the management of the licencing and membership processes in conjunction with the Executive Director and FabLab Education and Operations

Manager, to include letting, memberships, finance, sales, marketing, and events etc. to ensure a high occupancy and membership rate on opening. Lead client negotiations to maximise both occupancy, memberships and income target goals.

  • Explore additional sources of funding and develop a sustainable income generation strategy for the FabLab as a separate cost centre with the organisation.
  • Develop strong productive working relationships with external stakeholders to ensure that collaboration among all stakeholders including those from public, private, educational/training and community sectors is maximised so that the vision and objectives of the project are delivered.
  • Engage and develop a community of stakeholders from the wider design, creative industries, innovation, manufacturing and enterprise community at a regional and national level, leading to the establishment of a Product Design Cluster.
  • Create and nurture a collaborative environment, encourage networking benefit and synergies among occupant and member businesses and other local businesses.
  • Responsible for the implementation of a best-in-class community engagement strategy, ensuring its successful implementation and that the message delivered to the public is effective in how this facility is relevant to them individually and its delivery being a significant asset for the region.
  • To organise and attend engagement meetings/ consultation processes with various community groups and stakeholders to promote and implement sustainable design community activities.
  • To be proactive and creative, identifying ideas and opportunities to ensure communications and engagement is 'best-in-class' and that the reputation of Creative

Spark CLG and its integrity is exemplary.

  • To maintain Social Media channels focused on industry activation.
  • Lead out on all programming activity for the operational phase from commercial planning, to execution and marketing.
  • Contribute towards the development of industry focussed education programmes so that the education programmes have collaborative and interactive elements likely to foster the development of aligned interests among participants and suitable networking and career development opportunities in industry.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Creative Spark Board and Enterprise

Ireland on activities, targets and metrics.

  • Assist in delivery of EU Projects on behalf of Creative Spark CLG which may include travel at a European Level.
  • Attend meetings where required and implement decisions of the Board of Directors &

Strategic Advisory Boards/Committees established for the project.

  • Work to ensure best practice Governance in line with the Governance Code for

Charities is achieved in carrying out the duties of the position.

Reporting structure: You will report directly to the Executive Director and have responsibilities in delivering KPIs aligned with Creative Spark growth objectives.

Candidate Profile:

Minimum Essential Qualifications

  • A QQI Level 8 degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working within a business environment, proven track record of managing a broad range of stakeholders.

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong marketing and presentation skills - experience of marketing and communications, including social media platforms.
  • Competent in MS suite of programmes.
  • Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills. Results driven - a “completer/finisher”.
  • Pro-active in problem solving, great attention to detail with an ability to see the bigger picture.

Desirable Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and relevant experience of enterprise / design / innovation / technology sector for a minimum of two years.
  • Experienced in business pipeline development, events management, and a proven track record of managing projects with measurable outcomes.
  • Knowledge of, and affinity with, the FabLab global movement and the higher education sector.

  • Passion for and understanding of entrepreneurial communities.

  • Flexibility to work across a multifaceted site and to work evenings and weekends where required.
  • European travel may be required.
  • Experience of managing stakeholder and community engagement activities for a regional or national scale project is desirable.
  • Candidates must have the knowledge and ability to discharge the duties of the post and if successful agree to undertake the duties attached to the post and accept the conditions under which the duties are required to be performed.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Be an EU national, or have a current work permit for Ireland.

Location and Term:
The role of Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Business Development and Community
Manager will be located initially in Creative Spark, Muirhevnamor, Dundalk; some flexibility to work between this site and our Downtown Hub premises may be required.
This is a 2-year fixed term contract and is subject to a probationary period for 6 months with reviews at months 3 and 6. It is intended that the successful applicant will take up employment within one month of any offer.

Character:
Candidates shall be of good character. Employment of the successful candidate shall be subject to satisfactory references.

Health:
Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Hours of Work:
The normal working hours are 39 hours per week. This role will require a strong degree of flexibility as evening and weekend work, along with some foreign travel will be a central part of the delivery requirements.

Driving Licence:
The appointee must hold a full driving licence for Class B vehicles free from endorsement / disqualification and shall drive a motor car in the course of their duties, and for this purpose, provide and maintain a car to the satisfaction of the Creative Spark CLG. The appointee’s Insurance Policy must cover such use and indemnify Creative Spark CLG.
Travel and subsistence expense will be paid in accordance with nationally agreed rates applicable to the sector.

Creative Spark Marketing and Outreach Administrator

Overall purpose of Job:
General administration duties within the Creative Spark reception and with the management team; promotion of Creative Spark and its facilities to existing and potential new users; growing the numbers of people accessing and using facilities and events.

Reporting to: Creative Spark Executive Director

Base: Creative Spark, Muirhevnamor, Dundalk, Co. Louth; some flexibility to work between this site and our Downtown Hub premises may be required.

Duties Include:

  • General administration to include reception duties and including using a variety of IT and software packages, to produce correspondence and documents and maintain presentations, records and spreadsheets
  • Managing and updating online marketing including Website and Social Media
  • Managing and maintaining databases of beneficiaries in line with GDPR
  • Liaising with staff and with external contacts
  • Promotion of Creative Spark and its facilities to existing and potential new users
  • Communication with local and regional community to encourage take up of opportunities and use of facilities
  • Growing the numbers of people accessing and using facilities and events
  • Organising, arranging and coordinating and attending meetings, taking minutes and keeping notes
  • Management of office equipment
  • Maintaining a clean and enjoyable working environment
  • Handling external or internal communication or management systems
  • Sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing post
  • Updating building calendar in Outlook with all training and meetings taking place

General:

  • Attending weekly staff meeting and assisting in planning for events
  • General administration and any other duties which will contribute to the purpose and function of this post which will be identified by the Executive

Hours of Work:
The normal working hours are 39 hours per week; 08.30 to 5.00, Monday to Friday.

Annual leave:
20 days per annum

Spark Enterprise FabLab Technical Manager.

A key element of the role of the Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Technical Manager will be to lead the collaboration of the various stakeholders and partner organisations in the delivery of innovation and enterprise supports to learners, SMEs and industry.

Spark Enterprise Technical Manager will work with a collaborative steering group and continue the close collaboration with partners to ensure the project is meeting the needs of entrepreneurs, start-ups, learners, existing and emerging manufacturing in the region – a
FabLab ecosystem in action!

The Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Technical Manager will be responsible for the day-to- day running of our Enterprise FabLab and the maintenance of all equipment and safe running of the space. You will provide support, training, and expertise on machines and processes helping to deliver on the Creative Spark ambition to drive regional entrepreneurial innovation in line with its strategic pillars to provide spacedeliver supports and connect clusters.

The role of Creative Spark Enterprise FabLab Technical Manager comprises:

Maintaining workshop equipment

  • Monitor all workshop equipment tools and infrastructure for problems.
  • Repair equipment (working with suppliers where necessary) promptly, safely and to a high standard

Training and supporting users

  • Induct new workshop users in safe use of the tools
  • Support users in skills development to help them effectively use the workshop (e.g.

CAD/CAM training, design and prototyping advice)

  • Manage member bookings for inductions and training
  • Contribute to written documentation on use and maintenance of all tools
  • Give tours to prospective workshop users

Ensuring a safe, clean and accessible environment

  • Regularly inspect and clean the workshop and tools.
  • Promptly note and respond to repair issues that may cause safety risks or tool downtime.
  • Monitor and manage safe workshop practices.
  • Undertake risk assessments and take responsibility for controlling hazards and reducing risks in the workplace.
  • Track metrics on workshop usage, feedback, safety issues, and report to the wider team.

Supporting our workshop programme

  • Contribute towards the development of industry focussed education programmes so that the education programmes have collaborative and interactive elements likely to foster the development of aligned interests among participants and suitable networking and career development opportunities in industry.

Managing a maintenance and materials budget

  • Purchase spares, consumables and materials for workshop use, in line with budget constraints.
  • Follow procurement and record-keeping practices when making purchases.
  • Research equipment purchases and advise on required tools and consumables.
  • Monitor and regulate member use of consumables.

Reporting structure: You will report directly to the Executive Director and have responsibilities in delivering KPIs aligned with Creative Spark growth objectives.

Candidate Profile:

Minimum Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working within a manufacturing / engineering / FabLab environment, proven track record of working with a broad range of stakeholders.

Essential Knowledge & Skills :

Extensive knowledge of core workshop equipment:

  • Digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters
  • Basic hand, power tools and workshop tools

Some knowledge of advanced or specialised workshop equipment, such as:

  • CNC Mills (flatbed and multi-axis)
  • Metal engineering lathe and mill
  • Electronics testing equipment

Extensive knowledge of core workshop processes:

  • Workflows (design, CAM and optimisation) for digital fabrication tools (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters and CNCs).
  • Workflows and techniques for manual prototyping and common craft practices.

Some knowledge of some more specialised workshop processes and design skills, such as
(but not limited to):

  • 3D scanning
  • Moulding and casting
  • Textiles fabrication
  • Electronics design and fabrication
  • Machining in metal or wood
  • Sustainable design practices and materials
  • Product development skills such as ideation, user research, prototype design and testing
  • Common manufacturing processes and considerations
