How to Increase your Productivity at Work

Have you ever started the day with great intentions? Your to-do list has been made, with time allocated for each task? Then, somewhere through the day, you lose momentum and your productivity starts to dwindle? It happens to everyone! Producitivy can be hindered by a number of things, some of them can be out of your control, but most of the time, it's bad habits that get in the way of you getting your work done. We've made a list of a few tips and tricks to help you increase your productivity throughout the day so you can leave work feeling satisfied with a job well done! It is important to mention however that everyone is different, and what might work for some, may not work for you, it's all about trial and error until you get your mojo back!

Success Starts at Home

Your work life and productivity is a result of good practices in your home life. Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet, combined with regular exercise have been proven to positively impact your performance in the workplace. Drinking enough water and getting a good nights sleep all work in your favour to help you attack the day ahead.

Taking care of your mental health is also of paramount importance, practising mindfullness is great to help you reset. Whether you choose to do it in the morning ahead of your busy day, or in the evening to help you reset, the choice is yours!

Minimise Distractions

Before you dive into your workload, it's important to get rid of any distractions around your workspace so you don't procrastinate. Newspapers, phones and other entertainment should be put out of sight if the task at hand requires your full concentration. Don't go cold turkey though! Reward yourself with a few minutes break to scroll through your newsfeed after you complete your task at hand.

Share the Workload

Sometimes we bite off a bit more than we can chew. Taking on with too many projects at once without sufficient time to finish them leaves you stressed unnecessarily. Learning to ask for help is an important lesson for everyone, and chances are your colleagues will be more than happy to help! Just make sure you delegate and not micromanage.

Get Organised

Organisation is the key to everything. Dividing up your time efficiently, making a note of meeting times and taking time out of the day to reply to emails are all a necessary part of your day to day working life. Making time for all of these things can help you to prioritise which tasks to do first. Creating a to-do list for the following day is a great habit to learn. Ticking something off your list gives you a sense of professional satisfaction, motivating you to keep going!

Getting Started

Sometimes the thought of a particular project is actually worse than the project itself. That is why we recommend you start off with this first. Getting some of the 'heavy lifting' out of the way first thing in the morning sets you up with a good momentum for the rest of the day.
