Alistair spent a large part of his life working as a designer and director, working internationally in the theatre, mainly as a designer of sets, costumes and lighting. At the same time he continued  his own arts praxis, exhibiting a range of work in the UK, Germany and Australia.

Alistair’s career has included teaching art in secondary schools in London, lectureships at arts schools and universities in The U.K. and Australia including the Slade. In 1979 he assisted in the establishment of the Centre for the Performing Arts in Adelaide and later worked at the Western Australian College of Advanced Education and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.

During 2018 Alistair worked with the Light 2000 Community Group designing and publishing The Trees of Kilbroney Park, which included artworks by twenty seven international and local artists, including work by Heather Cassidy and James McLaughlin. An exhibition of the work toward to five venues in Northern Ireland.

As artist-in-residence in Creative Spark Alistair explored digital techniques and screen-printing possibilities which, with the support of an Arts Council of Northern Ireland grant culminated in a series of large Gicleé prints. The resulting “Falling or Flying” exhibition was shown at Down Arts Centre, Downpatrick in April and May, 2019.

During June 2019, Alistair was the artist-in-residence at the Belfast Print Workshop where he was investigating stone litho printing techniques.

He is looking forward to continuing his association with Creative Spark print studio and enormously grateful for the privilege of being able to work at both the Belfast Print Workshop and Creative Spark Print Studio.
