Catherine is a Dundalk based artist and has engaged in the creative industries for most of her adult life. In 2017, she decided to expand her skillset, and embark on a HND in Fine Art and Design (Newry) which culminated in a degree in Creative Imaging in 2022. She graduated from Liverpool John Moores Univesrsity with a 1st Class B.A. (Hons) Degree. While she explored a variety of themes throughout this degree such as the ‘Ravages of Dementia’ and the ‘Woman of the Táin’, her fascination with the beauty and mystery of the human face has always dominated her practice.
“The beauty and complexity of traditional and contemporary portraiture has always intrigued me. I believe that this art form, in particular, can mirror the strengths and frailties that live within all of us. While I would have expressed this through the medium of oil painting alone, in the past, I can now add a new dimension to my work with the inclusion of print, digital fabrication, and collage”.
She developed an interest in smart technology during her degree and, especially in the accessibility and portable nature of it. She says, “With the advent of digital technology it is an exciting time to be an artist, and by combining digital techniques with traditional processes, I can create mixed media pieces with a contemporary feel to it,
The next step for me, is to expand my practice, to include and encompass the new skills I have acquired throughout this degree, and to show my work to a wider audience’’,
