Cathy Fitzmaurice
Cathy Fitzmaurice is a visual artist based in Carlingford, County Louth. Originally from Galway, she studied printed textiles in The National College of Art and Design in Dublin and then furthered her education in the Dublin Institute of Technology with a post-graduate in graphic design and print studies. After her degree she worked in the fashion industry for a time creating unique fabric prints for John Rocha and then as a textile designer creating exclusive hand painted silk merchandise for corporations such as Guinness and Aer Lingus.
After falling in love with graphic design and digital print she worked for many years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director on international marketing and media campaigns. In 2019 she decided to move away from international marketing and has now returned to her roots. Her first love of drawing and printmaking forms the bases of her work. Cathy collaborates her love of drawing and textured backgrounds to create unique art pieces that are both colourful and monochromatic. Through drawing she recalls and examines the moments and memories that have impacted her life and evoked strong emotions
. She creates her marks with print rollers, paintbrushes, stencils, collage, bleach, acrylics, oils, domestic paint and many other mediums. Screen print is vital in her work and she uses the facility in Creative Spark to print her images.
