Una Curley
The context
Úna is a mixed media artist, she grew up in Kerry but now based in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.
She studied at NCAD and graduated with a first class (Hons) degree in Textile Design/Art and Artefact. This was the culmination of a long journey of exploring art as a language of expression.
Having previously attained a BA (Hons) Mgt with IMI and an MSc Communication from Queens University, as well as business counselling, NLP and legal Mediation; Úna was still curious about the intent or meaning beyond words; in particular, the complexities of stories, concepts, words, thoughts and feelings and the expression thereof. Through art she found that ‘words were not her first language!‘
The reassurance
She was selected for the student art awards at the RDS 2015. In 2015, she was also awarded a residency with Creative Spark and in 2016 a summer residency with An Táin Arts Centre.
This afforded her the time to explore the rich heritage of County Louth and develop new ideas through some collaboration and community involvement.
In August/September her very successful solo exhibition ‘Mi Camino a travé del Arte’ invited the viewer to journey with her through the art works and to experience the issues and barriers posed during a period of change.
